Feds respond to medical marijuana question

The law to allow medical marijuana in New Jersey was signed by Jon Corzine. There has been delay after delay administering it and critics of the Christie administration think that is no coincidence. The latest move was to ask the Justice Department if it would give assurance that medical marijuana growers will avoid prosecution.  The Associated Press obtained a letter from U.S. Deputy Attorney General James Cole which says prosecuting patients is not an efficient use of official resources. It seems to say as long as the marijuana operation is kept small and only for medical use it would be all right. Sixteen states have passed laws allowing medical marijuana and in New Jersey six alternative treatment centers have been approved. Christie says he wants to make sure New Jersey's medical marijuana law is not abused as it has been in other states. His critics say he is pandering to the right wing of the Republican Party and the Jersey-based pharmaceutical industry. I say we ought to find a way to help people who are in legitimate need because of pain or nausea.
